Jane Austen’s PERSUASION

Jane Austen’s Persuasion, the story of Anne Elliot, a woman who gets a second chance at love, is a perfect choice for the first national tour of Book-It Repertory Theatre. A Seattle treasure for more than 20 years, this Company is dedicated to transforming great literature into great theatre through simple and sensitive productions – bringing theater back to its storytelling roots.  Jane Austen’s deliciously droll descriptions and generous happy endings are an ideal match for Book-It’s signature style. Electronic Press Kit

PERSUASION
Anne Elliot, heroine of Jane Austen's last novel, did something we can all relate to: Long ago, she let the love of her life get away. Persuaded by a trusted family friend that the young man she loved was an "improper" match, having no fortune, ancestry, nor prospects, she rejected him. Now, seven years later, a successful navy officer, Captain Wentworth re-enters her life, giving Anne a second change to prove her unwavering love.

Pitting desire against convention, cuts straight to the heart of the social and gender issues of early 19th century England. Written in an era of turbulent change - the Napoleonic Wars had just ended - Persuasion examines how a woman can remain faithful to her past and still move forward into the future.

Persuasion is adapted by Jen Taylor and Colin Byrne and directed by Myra Platt.
